I agree with Trevor, I completely believe it works.
My experience was somewhat different though. I needed a certain amount of extra money for a debt that needed to be paid. I had no idea how I was going to get it, but I wrote it all down (having read masses on the internet), and worked out when I needed the money for.
I'll stress that I didn't know how I was going to get this money. However, as I worked away at my job in the day I had time to think about how I could get this money. I knew the date so that was planted firmly in my mind.
I ended up working in a bar in the evening, which was great, and gave me some extra money, but the best thing that happened was that a few weeks later I recieved an envelope in the post with a cheque in it from a relative. Now I hadn't told anyone I needed this money, but it was a legacy that came to me. Don't know what you might call it, devine intervention! But the point about this is that I had a goal, set it out, started working towards earning extra money, and then the windfall.
So like Trevor, yes, I really do believe that goal setting works, in whatever form you use it!

Does goal setting work? You bet it does! by: Trevor
I think goal setting works. In my IM business I needed to write 10 extra pages within 14 days for a reason which I won't bore you with! Now I knew this was going to be really hard work, but you know what, I did it. I did it by first writing out the amount of days I had, then working out what time I had available, then setting out each day what I was going to do, and I did it. Every day I worked towards that goal.
I looked at this piece of paper every day. I knew I had no choice, I had to do these 10 pages, and I did it. I was so pleased with myself.
I know that I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't sat down and worked out exactly what I needed to do. So yes, I say goal setting does work!
