Facing Fear -
How to deal with your fears

Facing fear is easier to put off than to deal with. 90% of fear is in your imagination, and you can use it as one of the many excuses not to progress in life, if that's what you want.

Self improvement is all about attitude and confidence, and by putting off facing your fear, you are not in the right mindset to move forward and improve yourself.

Facing fear needs to be conquered right now.

Before you go any further, I want you to write down what it is you fear.

WHAT IS YOUR FEAR, WHAT IT IS THAT YOU REALLY FEAR?

I don't want you to just read these pages, I want you to take action towards self improvement. That's why I need you to write down what it is you fear NOW.

If you've done this, WELL DONE! If you want to build on your self improvement, then I know you will have done that, as you are serious about changing your life.

Now you know what your fear is, the next thing is to

WORK OUT WHY YOU THINK YOU HAVE THIS PARTICULAR FEAR

Was it:
- Something that happened to you a while ago
- Are you afraid of failing in your specific task
- Did you have a bad experience
- Did someone laugh at you
- Did someone say something to you that you took offense at

- Some examples, but again you must write these down, otherwise you will find facing fear very difficult. You will find it tricky to overcome your fears if you have no concrete evidence of why you have this fear.

Right - now you know what you fear and why, you are almost there in the process of overcoming your fears.

The last thing to do now is to TAKE THIS FEAR AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN STATEMENT SO YOU CAN BEGIN FACING FEAR by overcoming it.

Conquering fear

Conquering fear means you need to start taking control of how you talk to yourself - as part of your self development and training your mind to say the right thing.

You will appreciate I can't do this for you as I don't know what you fear. When you have worked out your statement, say it out loud to yourself. Whatever works for you use it.

Here are a few examples to help you on your way

"Oh no, I've got to do a speech" - turn it around to "Oh yes, this speech is going to be brilliant because I have researched my material and I know what I'm talking about."

"I can't do this, I'm afraid I'm going to fail" - turn it around to "I can do this, I know what I'm doing and I will show them how good I am at it"

"I'm frightened my boss isn't going to like what I've done on this project" - turn it around to "I make sure I do everything to the best of my ability, I have spent a long time on this topic and if my boss doesn't like it, then I know it's not personal, I have done my best".

These are just some examples of how you face fear and do it anyway. Tackle it head on, don't be afraid any more - take positive action, train your subconscious to think positive thoughts and over time, with daily affirmations your fear will subside. It will take time, don't expect instant results. Self improvement takes time, knowledge and action.
