Finding the goal setting technique
that works best

What is the right goal setting technique for you?

In truth, the techniques should be the same for everyone, the only thing that changes is the timescales, the work put in and the rewards.

However, as you have probably discovered, they aren't the same the world over.  We know this because most people try and fail at goal setting, so somewhere along the line the goal setting technique isn't working.

I will be giving you 3 techniques which will help you with your goal setting plans.

Everyone has different ways of doing things, and it's always great to hear other peoples stories, some successful, some not so. Share them with us....

1.  Goal Setting Technique

First and foremost, you need to know exactly what it is you want to achieve - Yes, I know this may sound obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people really don't know what they want.

It's easy to dream, we can all do that, but not quite so easy to put in the work for something that you don't have a strong desire for.  So your goal needs to be something that completely motivates you into action.  No motivation will equal no action.

So this first technique is what I would call your brainstorming technique. Goal setting doesn't just happen overnight and you must take some time to make sure that what you want will give you the motivation and desire to start off the whole goal setting process, and more importantly, to see it through to the end.

The first thing to do is to:

  • understand exactly where you are right now, and
  • where you want to go

Having the right goal setting program will really help with this first goal setting technique.

One of the most difficult things about setting goals is actually starting the process off. Without knowing what you REALLY want, you will not succeed in setting goals. It's why most people say goals don't work. You must know what you want and where you want to go to.

So you must seriously spend some time, alone, thinking and working out exactly what it is you want to achieve.  Don't miss out on this technique, as without doing this first, you won't succeed with the rest of the process.

You can browse and learn more about the importance of the Goal setting technique, as knowledge of goal setting will definitely steer you in the right direction.

And knowing what you want, knowing what will keep your dreams alive and what will keep you motivated means lettting your imagination run wild. Let no obstacle get in the way of what you really desire.

2.  Goal Setting Technique

You must have a goal plan, or goal setting program, and the technique used for this is to have a goal setting worksheet. Without a worksheet you won't have a plan. By writing down a goal plan, the goal becomes accountable to you. You are answerable to the goal plan you have set out, and if you don't commit to paper, then you are telling your subconscious that you're not serious enough.

Without some plan of action, you will fail. Why? Well, put bluntly, no plan means you are going no where fast. You're like a ship without a rudder, and I'm sure that's not what you want. What you need is a program that you can track and monitor daily and check results.

Goal orientated successful people know that action is the key to reaching your goals. Why not join those successful people and start your goal setting process.

Most people have never actually got this far. It seems obvious that if you don't know what you want, you won't be able to achieve it, but, believe it or not, it is the thing that is most easily overlooked.

3.  Goal Setting Technique

Take some ACTION

I know this seems obvious as well, but have you actually taken any action towards setting your goals, or are you passively sitting, reading or procrastinating?

Please understand that if you don't use this goal setting technique, nothing will happen; you won't achieve your aim.

IN BRIEF -

  • Make sure you learn to take time to work out what it is you want. Have fun. It's one of the major elements of goal setting and, as I said earlier, shouldn't be brushed aside. You must understand that without sitting down and working out what YOU want and desire, then you might as well forget the rest of goal setting.
  • Commit your plan to paper. If you are serious enough to want to set goals, then make sure you get a program that will help with this step. If you're serious about achieving what you want, why not take some time out to learn about the elements of goal setting and what it can do for you.
  • Take the necessary action

These 3 techniques, IMAGINATION, PLANNING AND ACTION, are what will help put your dreams and goals into reality. Look at the lessons and strategies page to put you on the right road to achieving what you want.
