Lacking self confidence
by: Suzie, YSIG

Richard, having a negative attitude at work is not good! But if it’s only because you feel you lack self confidence and self esteem, the good news is that this can be easily overcome.

I suspect that others see more potential in yourself that you do, and it’s only a matter of believing in yourself and realising you have strengths where others don’t.

If you have a negative body language at work, this usually comes across as someone who isn’t interested in what is going on, so you must make sure that you have a good body language to start with.

Once you’ve got your body language sorted, you then need to realise that you are knowledgeable about your work and that you can have the confidence to carry out a task in hand. If you are unsure, seek advice from from others (see How To Be Assertive – link ). There is no shame is asking the opinions of others and it doesn’t make you look any the worse.

Whenever you are in front of a mirror, tell yourself you are great. I know that sounds corny, but it will give you a confidence boost. Finally, have a conviction in your beliefs that you are up to the job, you are capable of what is being asked and that you can achieve.
